As many of you already know, blogging is a whole new journey for me; I’m a total newbie here. To improve my blog, I’ve been doing a lot of research, get inspiration from other bloggers and read their tutorials on how to make my blog page look prettier and more eye-catching. I would say that I’m pretty happy with how my blog’s appearance right now. It’s not perfect, but I love it. And hey, I did it all by myself and hasn’t spent a penny on it.
There are many, many sites where you can pay to buy blog templates but for me, some college student who is living on a budget, I want to save wherever and whenever I can. I’m sure many of you can relate.Blogging with Jolie is a brand new series where I share with you what I’ve learnt throughout the course of improving my blog. As I mentioned above, I’m not an expert. I’m a newbie like many of you are. Therefore, I will only share what I’ve been finding and learning about the blogging world. Let’s get better in blogging together, shall we?For today, I will show you how to put social media sites buttons on your main page (Here, I use Blogger). Well, in case you don’t know what I’m talking about, this is what I mean:
They are, basically, buttons (or icons) that link to all of your SNS where people can click. Putting these buttons on your main page is a great way to connect with other people and showcase your other social networks. For example, on my page, I have Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, LinkedIn and Tumblr. If you want to put them on your page too, here is what you need to do.Step 1: Of course, before anything else, you need to get these buttons. I put mine together using Photoshop with some basic Photoshop skills I learnt here and there. You can also use Picmokey if you prefer. Many bloggers offer free icons on their blogs. Here some from IGottaCreate!Step 2: Uploading your icons/buttons on Photobucket (I’ve used this site for many years and still love it)Once done, you need to copy the HTML link so you can put the icon on your blog.
Step 3:Go to your Blogger Control Board. Choose Layout –> Add a Gadget
Choose HTML gadget
Paste the HTML link you copy from Photobucket into the Content box
Step 5:Link the button to your Social Media Sites: In the HTLM link, replace anything between <a href:” and ” target=”_blank”>
Last Step:You can do the same for the rest of the icons/buttons. Depending on how many buttons you want to add. I put 5 on my page. Then click Save –> PreviewOnce you’re happy with the appearance, click Save arrangement and you’re done!Question: Where do you get your icons/buttons? Do you make them yourself or get them from another website?
