How To Repurpose Old/Expired Eyeshadow (Updated 8/23/2016)

Hey guys,
The other day, when I was going through my makeup collections, I realized that most of my BHcosmetics eyeshadow palettes had expired. How sad! I didn’t get to use them a lot. Despite how much I wanted to keep them, I didn’t want to risk getting an eye infection (don’t use expired cosmetics guys!). However, the colors are so gorgeous that my heart sank by the thought of throwing them away. So, what did I do?
With the goal of reuse/repurpose my expired eyeshadows, I went on Google and did some research. And guess what? I did find a brilliant way to reuse expired eyeshadows. That is: TURNING A GORGEOUS EYESHADOW INTO A GORGEOUS NAIL POLISH! Whoever created this is a genius!

Of course, I had to try it right away and, today, I want to share with you guys what I did. Hopefully, this will be a great solution for those who have the same problem with old eyeshadows like I did.

What you need:

Old/expired eyeshadow of your choice
Clear nail polish (any brands will work)
Small spatula (or something to take out the eyeshadow)
Small container (here I use the back of a bowl)
Step by step:

First, you want to scrape out all the eyeshadow from its pan. It’s best to make the eyeshadow into powder form. I used a small spatula to do this.

Next, put the eyeshadow powder that you made earlier into a clear nail polish of your choice. Mine was from Wet n Wild. I believe it was .89 cent when I got it. You can use the one that you already have or get a new clear polish for very cheap at the drugstore.
In order to make it easier for me, I made a small cone out of paper and used it as a funnel to put the eyeshadow into the polish. Like this:

Once you put all the powder inside, shake it well! *shake it, shake shake it* XD
There you have it: your new customized nail polish.
This is how mine turned out. So pretty! I’m so so so satisfied with it.

I used to love this eyeshadow so much. The color is light blue with a hint of gold. It is beautiful when the light hits as you can see in the photo. I think I love the color even more as a nail polish ^^
Update (8/23/2016): I noticed that the eyeshadow sit at the bottom of the bottle so remember to shake it well before every use.
What do you guys think? Also, if you have any other tips on how to reuse/repurpose expired cosmetics, leave it in the comment section so we can all learn about it!

  1. I'm going to have to give this a try. Clear polish is cheap and if my results aren't as nice as yours I've only lost some time. Thanks for sharing with us at Creatively Crafty 🙂 I've shared on social media. Everyone needs to know how to do this!

  2. Hi Lydia,

That was exactly what I thought when I did this haha. Clear polish is very cheap so even if it doesn't turn out nice, we don't lose much but time! I'm so happy you like this post and thanks for sharing it.

    Love!
