As I’m writing this, August is coming in two days. August also marks a year since I joined the bullet journal community. In the beginning, it was just a mere curiosity. When I saw people posting about their bullet journal setup on Instagram and Tumblr, I thought it was such a great idea to have your own customized planner and I wondered if I could replicate that. I tried…and now, I don’t think I’d ever stop bullet journaling.
After one year, bullet journal has become a part of my routine. Setting it up is something that I look forward to every week and every month. And this month isn’t an exception. Maybe because it’s a one-year mark, I went a little extra on the August bullet journal setup and I really love it. I thought I’d share it with you guys and, hopefully, it will give you some ideas and inspirations for your own bullet journal setup.
My August bullet journal setup was inspired by @amandarachdoodles. Amanda said the coral reef and seashells is a great theme to end the summer and I can’t agree more. This whole “under the sea” theme will reminisce about my summer well spent at the beach.

Cover Page
For this month’s cover page, I decided to doodle some seashells and seaweed on a white sheet of paper and cut it out. It was my first time using this technique but I really love how it creates a 3D effect. I also used light blue as my accent color.

Monthly Spread
I’ve tried different monthly layouts and found this vertical spread works the best for me. Personally, I don’t usually have many events going in a month so this layout is just perfect. Of course, I had to add some fishie and seashell doodles.

Habit Trackers, Sleep Tracker
Tracking my sleep is super important to me because I’m a crazy sleeping person! There are days that I sleep at 4 am and wake up at noon the next day. Seeing my sleeping pattern makes me realize how bad I am with my sleeping schedule and motivates myself to go to bed early and wake up early.

Weekly Spread
And lastly, my weekly spread. To keep the theme consistent, I added some seashell doodles and bubbles. In the top left corner, I decided to leave a small space to jot down my photo ideas for Instagram @joliecious. Below that is my weekly goals. On the half bottom of the right page, there is my running list for the week. After using bullet journal for a while, I realized that I have a lot of duplicate tasks throughout the week. Using the running list keeps my spread cluster-free. Thanks @bluelahe for the inspiration!
That’s my bullet journal setup for the month of August. What about yours? Which theme do you use this month? If you have any questions about my bullet journal setup, feel free to ask me in the comment section below or on my Instagram @joliecious.

Good luck,

Your journal is so beautiful, and so is your handwriting! My journals tend to be very messy and I’m never really fully happy with them, haha. Thanks for sharing this, hun! xoxo

My journal is sometimes messy too. It really depends on how much time I have and how lazy I am haha.
This is so good! I’m rubbish at drawing so my bullet journal just stays black and white and minimal but I love seeing other peoples creations! Yours looks amazing <3 xxx

I adore people who can make minimal bullet journal look amazing. You know, it’s difficult to stay black and white yet aesthetic! I’m not really good at drawing but I practice a lot and watch people’s drawing video. Thank you for stopping by, Samantha!
You’re very good at drawing – I’d have to rely more on stickers or trace things. LOL I do like the look of bullet journals. I have a regular planner for now, but I think I might use both a planner AND a bullet journal (to keep track of other things) in the new year.

Thank you for your compliment. I don’t think I’m really good at drawing. Most of the time I have to look at people’s drawings on google and replicate them.
